Source: Shodhganga: Temples and cult of Sri Rama in TamilnaduCemponcey is short for Cemponceykoyil, which refers to one of the 108 divyadesas according to Priyavaccan Pillai’s compendium of the Ramayana based on the Nalayirativviyappirapantam.—Cemponcey-koyil is linked with Rama. After Lanka-dahana, Rama is said to have visited this venue and offered a golden cow as dana to a brahmana. The temple is said to have been built by the Brahmana. Cempon means molten gold.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences.
