Vyakarana (Sanskrit grammar)
Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarCh (छ्).—The second consonant of the palatal class of consonants (चवर्ग (cavarga)), which is possessed of the properties श्वास, अघोष, मह्याप्राण (śvāsa, aghoṣa, mahyāprāṇa) and कण्ठविवृतकारित्व (kaṇṭhavivṛtakāritva). छ् (ch), placed at the beginning of affixes, is mute; while ईय् (īy) is substituted for छ् (ch) standing at the beginning of taddhita affixes; cf. P. I. 3.7 and VII. 1.2. छ् (ch) at the end of roots has got ष् (ṣ), substituted for it: cf. P. VIII. 2.36.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
