Source: Asian Agri-History: Drumavichitrikaranam—The Ancient Approach to Plant MutagenesisFood Supply refers to one of the modern applications which could benefit from ancient Indian agriculture, which presents a safe technology and methodology regarding organic agriculture and plant mutagenesis (druma-vichitrikaranam), according to treatises (such as the Vrikshayurveda).—Food Supply will include technologies to reduce the demand-supply gap, such as growing fruits out of season and throughout the year, increasing the size of fruits, and methods to increase production and quality of fruits, to alleviate the shortage of food supply and reduced availability of arable land.

Āyurveda (आयुर्वेद, ayurveda) is a branch of Indian science dealing with medicine, herbalism, taxology, anatomy, surgery, alchemy and related topics. Traditional practice of Āyurveda in ancient India dates back to at least the first millenium BC. Literature is commonly written in Sanskrit using various poetic metres.
