Iṣṭakālakṣaṇādividhi (इष्टकालक्षणादिविधि) (lit. “regarding characteristics of bricks and other things”) is the name of chapter 8 of the Viṣvaksenasaṃhitā: a Pāñcarātra text comprising 2800 Sanskrit verses dealing with theological matters, image-worship, iconography (relating to pratimā-icons) and the construction of temples.

Description of the chapter [iṣṭakālakṣaṇādividhi]: The chapter commences by describing how Nārada approached Viṣvaksena who was doing penance on the other side of the Milky Ocean. Nārada requests Viṣvaksena to tell him about the characteristic features of the icons of the Lord, the mantras and their meters, etc., addressed to the Lord and His Retinue (1-4). Viṣvaksena points out that this tantra-teaching is Vedic and therefore authoritative in character, and that it is more valid than any other āgamas and is highly beneficial to follow; the same applies to the uttarabhāga (= latter section) of this tantra, he says (5-8). Viṣvaksena then launches into a series of compact instructions concerning preparation of a plot for plowing, sowing seeds for aṅkurārpaṇa-germinations, making certain types of bricks, and conducting the “first-bricks” rites (prathameṣṭakā) (9-42).
