Source: Wisdom Library: YogaIyengar is a title given to Brahmins of Tamil origin who follow the Visishtadvaita philosophy. Iyengar is derived from "Ayya a Prakrit" along with "Garu".
Some believe that the word "Iyengar" means one who is characterized by five attributes (Aindu angangal).
Yoga is originally considered a branch of Hindu philosophy (astika), but both ancient and modern Yoga combine the physical, mental and spiritual. Yoga teaches various physical techniques also known as āsanas (postures), used for various purposes (eg., meditation, contemplation, relaxation).
