Jaladaśabda (जलदशब्द) refers to the “rumbling of the clouds”, according to the 15th century Mātaṅgalīlā composed by Nīlakaṇṭha in 263 Sanskrit verses, dealing with elephantology in ancient  India, focusing on the science of management and treatment of elephants.—[Cf. chapter 8, “on marks of character”]: “8. Who has an odor like those of fish, śaivala (a water grass), phaṇirjaka (kind of basil), mud, brandy, or raw flesh, who is frightened when he hears even the rumbling of the clouds (jaladaśabda), becomes enraged at night, and delights in water and dust,—he is a serpent”.
