Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarJihvāmūlasthāna (जिह्वामूलस्थान).—(l)having the root of the tongue as the place of its production;the phonetic element or letter called जिह्वामूलीय (jihvāmūlīya); (2) name given to that phonetic element into which a visarga is changed when followed by क् (k) or ख् (kh); cf X क इति जिह्वामूलीयः (ka iti jihvāmūlīyaḥ) V.Pr.VIII.19. The जिह्वामूलीय (jihvāmūlīya) letter is called जिह्व्य (jihvya) also; see Nyasa on I. 1.9. The Rk. Pratisakhya looks upon ऋ, लृ, जिह्वामूलीय (ṛ, lṛ, jihvāmūlīya), and the guttural letters as जिह्वामूलस्थान (jihvāmūlasthāna).
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
