Source: Shodhganga: The significance of the mūla-beras (śilpa)Mukkurini is the name of deity as found depicted in the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai (or Madura), which represents a sacred place for the worship of The Goddess (Devī).—A gigantic image of Vināyaka is seen at the entrance of the Sundareśvarar prahāra. Vināyaka is called Mukkurini Vināyaka. The usual form of Vināyaka is seen here in lalitāsana pose. In Sundareśvarar’s sanctum, there are four prahāras. The Mukkurini Vināyaka is in the outer prahāra. As the devotee moves to the right of Mukkurini Vināyaka, to the right of the devotee, there are eleven liṅgas. At the back of the Mukkurini Vināyaka, in the right corner is the sanctum of Ādi Parāśakti.
Shilpashastra (शिल्पशास्त्र, śilpaśāstra) represents the ancient Indian science (shastra) of creative arts (shilpa) such as sculpture, iconography and painting. Closely related to Vastushastra (architecture), they often share the same literature.
