Source: Wisdom Library: Āyurveda and botanyMūtrasaṅgrahaṇīya (मूत्रसङ्ग्रहणीय) is the Sanskrit name for a group of medicinal plants, classified as “reducing secretion of the urine”, and originally composed by Caraka in his Carakasaṃhitā sūtrasthāna IV. It can also be spelled as Mūtrasaṃgrahaṇīya (मूत्रसंग्रहणीय). The name is derived from the words mūtra, translating to “urine”, and saṅgrahaṇīya, referring to “contracted”, “restrained”. It is a technical term used throughout Āyurveda. Examples of plants pertaining to this category include Plakṣa (Ficus infectoria), Kapitāna (Spondias mangifera), Aśvattha or Aśvatha (Ficus religiosa) and Bhallātaka (Semecarpus anacardium). The collection of herbs named Mūtrasaṅgrahaṇīya is one of the fifty Mahākaṣāya.
