The Nāracandrajyotiṣaṭippanna (in Sanskrit and Prakrit, with interlinear Rajasthani commentary) is included in the collection of manuscripts at the ‘Vincenzo Joppi’ library, collected by Luigi Pio Tessitori during his visit to Rajasthan between 1914 and 1919.—The work starts with five verses listing 51 headings, which are then dealt with in turn and marked by colophons, but this is not done systematically.
Jyotisha (ज्योतिष, jyotiṣa or jyotish) refers to ‘astronomy’ or “Vedic astrology” and represents the fifth of the six Vedangas (additional sciences to be studied along with the Vedas). Jyotisha concerns itself with the study and prediction of the movements of celestial bodies, in order to calculate the auspicious time for rituals and ceremonies.
