Source: Shodhganga: Temples of Salem region Up to 1336 ADNikhātastambha (निखातस्तम्भ).—Nikhātastambhas are hidden (buried) stone shafts which stand as support for the bases of the pillars found in the centre of the hall or the 67 pavilion. The height of the nikhātastambha corresponds to the level of the paved stone slabs of the floor of the interior. The surrounding places of the nikhātastambha are to be filled by sand or similar material.
Vastushastra (वास्तुशास्त्र, vāstuśāstra) refers to the ancient Indian science (shastra) of architecture (vastu), dealing with topics such architecture, sculpture, town-building, fort building and various other constructions.
