Sādhāraṇarasa (महारस):—The name of a group drugs, as listed in the Rasaprakāśasudhākara (Sanskrit book on rasaśāstra, or ‘Indian medicinal alchemy’).

These are the names of the various drugs (Sanskrit name first, english name in brackets):

  1. Navasāra (‘amoniu chloride’),
  2. Varāṭikā (‘cowrie’),
  3. Hiṅgūla (‘cinnabar’),

  2. Girisindūra (‘red oxide of mercury’),
  3. Boddāraśṛṅga/Mṛddāraśṛṅga (‘yellow oxide of lead’),

Sadharanarasa (सधरनरस) or simply Sādhāraṇa refers to “eight metals which are considered slightly inferior to uparasa in processing mercury”, and mentioned in the Rasaratnasamuccaya: a 13th century C.E. alchemical treatise, authored by Vāgbhaṭa, is a useful compilation related to preparation and properties of drugs of mineral and metallic origin.
