Source: eScholarship: Chapters 1-14 of the Hayasirsa PancaratraSaptiśīrṣa (सप्तिशीर्ष) refers to “he who has a head which is like the head of a horse”, or “who has the head of a horse” as mentioned in the 9th century Hayaśīrṣa-pañcarātra (Ādikāṇḍa chapter 1).—“[...] Since you, who, having made homage to the horse-headed one (Saptiśīrṣa), are a devotee of Keśava, you are worthy to hear the ancient Pañcarātra. [...]”.
Pancaratra (पाञ्चरात्र, pāñcarātra) represents a tradition of Hinduism where Narayana is revered and worshipped. Closeley related to Vaishnavism, the Pancaratra literature includes various Agamas and tantras incorporating many Vaishnava philosophies.
