Source: Wisdom Library: Āyurveda and botanyŚītapraśamana (शीतप्रशमन) is the Sanskrit name for a group of medicinal plants, classified as “removing fatigue”, and originally composed by Caraka in his Carakasaṃhitā sūtrasthāna IV. The name is derived from the words śīta, translating to “cold”, and praśamana, translating to “pacifying” or “tranquillizing”. It is a technical term used throughout Āyurveda. Examples of plants pertaining to this category include Tagara (Bignonia chelonoides), Dhānyaka (Coriandrum sativum), Śṛṅgavera (Zingiber officinarum) and Bhūtika (Ptychotis ajowan). The collection of herbs named Śītapraśamana is one of the fifty Mahākaṣāya.
