Source: Wisdom Library: Āyurveda and botanyŚramahara (श्रमहर) is the Sanskrit name for a group of medicinal plants, classified as “removing fatigue”, and originally composed by Caraka in his Carakasaṃhitā sūtrasthāna IV. The name is derived from the words śrama, translating to “fatigue” or “exhaustion”, and hara, translating to “curing”, “removing” or “destroying”. It is a technical term used throughout Āyurveda. Examples of plants pertaining to this category include Drākṣā, Kharjūra (Phoenix sylvestrix), Piyāla (Buchanania latifolia), Vadara, Phalgu (Ficus glomerata), Ikṣu, Yava and Ṣaṣṭika. The collection of herbs named Śramahara is one of the fifty Mahākaṣāya.
