Source: Shodhganga: The saurapurana - a critical studyŚūleśvaraliṅga (शूलेश्वरलिङ्ग) or simply Śūleśvara is the name of a Tīrtha (holy places), according to the 10th century Saurapurāṇa: one of the various Upapurāṇas depicting Śaivism.—In that beautiful city of Ujjayinī there is the Śūleśvara-liṅga. By visiting this liṅga the fruit of aśvamedha sacrifice is attained. Towards the eastern side of Śūleśvara, there is the Oṃkāra-liṅga. There is a divine kuṇḍa nearby. A bath at the kuṇḍa and a visit to Oṃkāra-liṅga endowes divine knowledge.

The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
