Upadiś (उपदिश्) refers to the “subsidiary quarters”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.5.8 (“The detailed description of the chariot etc.”).—Accordingly, as Sanatkumāra narrated to Vyāsa: “The divine chariot of lord Śiva consisting of all the worlds was built by Viśvakarman with devoted effort. [...] The forceful and excellent mantras with their syllables and feet, of all characteristic features and the stages in life constituted the tinkling bells. Ananta embellished with thousand hoods constituted its fittings, and the main and subsidiary quarters (upadiś), the pedestals of the chariot [diśaḥ pādā rathasyāsya tathā copadiśaścaha]. [...]”

1) To instruct, teach, explain, advise; यद्यत्प्रयोगविषये भाविकमुपदिश्यते मया तस्य (yadyatprayogaviṣaye bhāvikamupadiśyate mayā tasya) ... तत्तत्प्रत्युपदिशतीव मे बाला (tattatpratyupadiśatīva me bālā) M.1.5; सुखमुपदिश्यते परस्य (sukhamupadiśyate parasya) K.156 it is easy to advise others; ज्ञानमुपदिश् (jñānamupadiś) Bhagavadgītā (Bombay) 4.34; R.16.43.

2) To point, indicate, refer to; गुणशेषामुपदिश्य भामिनीम् (guṇaśeṣāmupadiśya bhāminīm) R.8.73; सुवर्णपुरमार्गमुपदेक्ष्यति (suvarṇapuramārgamupadekṣyati) K.12,92 point out or tell.
