Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarVaṃśādi (वंशादि).—A class of words headed by the word वंश (vaṃśa), the word भार (bhāra) placed after which gets the taddhita affixes added to it, as prescribed in the senses 'takes it', 'carries it' or 'produces it'; e.g. वांशभारिकः (vāṃśabhārikaḥ); cf. Kas. on P.V. 1.50. The tad. affixes as prescribed in the senses mentioned above are added to the words वंश (vaṃśa) etc. and not to भार (bhāra) according to some commentators; e.g.वांशिकः, कौटजिकः (vāṃśikaḥ, kauṭajikaḥ) etc.; cf. Kas. on P. V. 1.50.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
