Varāhavrata (वराहव्रत) refers to the “vow associated with Varāha” which is to be observed during Bhādrapada (September/October), as discussed in chapter 15 (Caryāpāda) of the Padmasaṃhitā: the most widely followed of Saṃhitā covering the entire range of concerns of Pāñcarātra doctrine and practice (i.e., the four-fold formulation of subject matter—jñāna, yoga, kriyā and caryā) consisting of roughly 9000 verses.—According to the chapter [vrata-anuṣṭhānakrama]: This chapter is divided into sections corresponding to the various months, and in each section the supererogatory activities customary to that month are given. In the first month treated (but the tenth month of the year), bhādrapada (September/October), the vrata connected with Varāha [e.g., varāhavrata] is to be done (1-2). [...] The closing section gives general remarks concerning all the twelve months-in each of which a special day is designated during which devotion is to be given to one of the twelve names of Viṣṇu, one by one; on each such/special day, moreover, a fast is observed (121b-136a).
