Vyakarana (Sanskrit grammar)
Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarVibhajyānvākhyāna (विभज्यान्वाख्यान).—A method of forming a word, or of arriving at the complete form of a word by putting all the constituent elements of the word such as the base, the affix, the augment, the modification, the . accent, etc. one after another and then arriving at the form instead of completing the formation stage by stage; e. g. in arriving at the form स्नौघ्नी (snaughnī) the wording स्नौघ्न (snaughna) + अ (a) +ई (ī) is to be considered as it stands and not स्नौघ्न (snaughna) + अ (a) = स्नौघ्न (snaughna) and then स्नौघ्न (snaughna) +ई. The विभज्यान्वाख्यानपक्ष (vibhajyānvākhyānapakṣa) in connection with the formation of a word corresponds to the पद-संस्कारपक्ष (pada-saṃskārapakṣa) in connection with the formation of a sentence.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
