Purana and Itihasa (epic history)
Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationVibhīta (विभीत) refers to “being threatened (by a curse)”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.33 (“The appeasement of Himavat”).—Accordingly, as Vasiṣṭha said to Himavat (Himācala): “[...] When danger was imminent at the hands of a Brahmin, the chief of kings, Anaraṇya, saved his entire asset by giving his daughter to him. When he was threatened (vibhīta) by the curse of Brahmin his preceptors, wise kinsmen and people well-versed in the science of polity advised him hastily. O king of mountains, you too save your kinsmen by giving your daughter to Śiva. You can claim thus the gods too to your side”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.

Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
