Vyūhabheda (व्यूहभेद) or Vyūhabhedalakṣaṇa (lit. “chapter concerning various kinds of patterns for drawing padmamaṇḍalas”) is the name of chapter 7 of the Pauṣkarasaṃhitā: a Pāñcarātra text of almost 5900 verses divided into forty-three chapters presented as a frame-work dialogue between Pauṣkara and Bhagavān dealing with the esoteric meaning of maṇḍala-designs, worship routines and temple-building.—Description of the chapter [vyūhabheda-lakṣaṇa]: Given the preceding lotus-motif, directions are given in this chapter for using this same motif in larger designs. The plans for such larger designs [vyūhas] are described. Where the lotus-motif is to go in a larger design is given (6-40); how the motif is to be enclosed in a square [pīṭha] is given (41-62); where openings [dvāra] may be made along the sides of the square is given also (63-109), Deities are to be imagined to be present in various parts of the overall design [vyūha] (110-173).
